Pierre de Backer serves as Principal to the Investment Funds and Corporate practices of Deynecourt since the firm’s inception.

Pierre specialises in the formation and offering of regulated and unregulated alternative investment funds, and counselling funds and their sponsors in all aspects of their operations. Throughout his career, he has gained significant experience advising clients that manage or market alternative investment products.

Pierre has been active in assisting clients in structuring Luxembourg and offshore funds, including stand-alone and master-feeder structures, and international investors in negotiating the terms of their subscription in Luxembourg funds. He also has broad transactional experience involving funds and their managers, including merger and acquisition transactions, fund reorganisations and liquidations.

Pierre also serves as director for a limited selection of investment funds sponsored by the firm’s clients. He advises clients on the full range of issues that funds, their management bodies and advisers encounter day-to-day, including compliance and corporate governance matters.

He has spoken at various conferences on fund structuration, management and regulation topics.

Pierre’s expertise has been recognised in various editions of the Legal 500 since 2013, where he has been named as being among Luxembourg’s recommended investment funds lawyers.

For the five years before joining Deynecourt, Pierre was a senior advisor then principal and head of the investment funds practice at other firms. Prior to his time in private practice, Pierre held senior positions with private banks and fund administration businesses in London then Luxembourg since 2000.

Pierre speaks fluent French and English and moderate Dutch.
